PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING AUDITION INFORMATION CAREFULLY
Audition process and requirements:
A music theory test, sight-reading, aural memory, the performance of a prepared selection and interview.
BAND- Wind and percussion instrumental should prepare a solo grade I or higher, selected from the Bandmaster Assoc. List or a simple hymn, patriotic song, folk song or ballad is preferred. Instrumental accompaniment is optional. POP, ROCK OR RAP MUSIC IS NOT ACCEPTABLE.
JAZZ BAND- Students auditioning for Jazz Band may audition on Piano, Guitar, Bass Guitar, Drum set, Auxiliary Percussion or Wind instrument. Students with no prior experience may audition by preparing a solo selection on the bells or recorder at their highest level. Piano students may audition on the piano. Students may also audition on Vocals.
Band/Jazz Band Audition Requirement
Music is an art form which all people value. Musicians are charged with its interpretation and communication. Music students at the Center of the Arts a Norland Middle, both vocals and instrumental, discover their own ability to interpret and communicate. The music programs offer three performance disciplines: Band, Chorus and Orchestra. Music students receive one hour of instruction in their performance discipline and one hour of music theory daily. Students enjoy intensive theory training which includes sight-reading, ear training, and composition. Vocals students have the opportunity to participate in Vocal Ensemble or Chorus. All ensembles perform regularly for school and community function throughout the school year. Music students have the exciting experience of working with consultants in their area of concentration. Attending Master Classes field trips to professional performances increase awareness and develop critical thinking skills. The goal of Norland Middle School Music program os to focus on content knowledge, performance skills, discipline, career awareness, and personal, social and musical values.
